Safety Information

Your Responsibilities While in the Building

We have put safety procedures in place to keep our students and staff healthy.

  • Masks: Masks must be worn at all times by all adults (teachers, staff, and visitors) and by all students while in the building. Children should bring their own mask whenever possible.

    • Here is a video on how to store your mask safely: Storing your mask in paper bag video

    • Acceptable face coverings include but are not limited to cloth-based face coverings (e.g., homemade, sewn, or quick cut masks), and disposable surgical masks that cover both the mouth and nose.

    • Types of face coverings not allowed in schools:

      • Bandanas and neck gaiters are not permitted.

      • Face coverings with an exhalation valve or vent are not permitted as exhalation valves allow unfiltered exhaled air to escape to others.

      • Face coverings that completely cover or hide an individual’s face, such as ski masks, are not permitted.

      • Unless otherwise approved by school administration, clear face shields cannot be worn unless accompanied by a face covering.

  • Hand washing: Students and staff are expected to wash/sanitize their hands thorough out the day.

  • Drop-off and pickup procedures: Please maintain social distancing between families during drop-off and pickup. We will have signs indicating 6 feet space, etc. Please move through the drop-off and pick-up line as quickly as possible to make room for families behind you. Parents are not allowed to enter the building with their child unless arrangements have been made in advance with the office.

  • Visiting our school: We are limiting visitors to the school during this time for health safety reasons. Most parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, and other meetings will be held virtually. All visits must be pre-approved and scheduled with the office.

  • While in the building: When you enter the building, please check in at the front desk. During check-in, you will be asked to fill out paperwork, get a temperature check, and sign in with a valid state ID. This is the Health Screening Questionnaire you would have to fill out prior to entering the building. You will be given a name tag and reminded to wear your mask at all times. You will then be escorted to your destination or asked to remain at the front desk.

  • Traffic flow in hallways and common areas: Hallways are marked with directional signs and social distancing spaces. Please keep at least 6 ft. distance between yourself and others. There will be limited movement within the school building.

  • Illness: Students and staff exhibiting any signs of illness must stay home. If you or someone you know has COVID-19 (or shows symptoms of COVID-19 such as coughing or fever of 100.0 degrees), it is required that you stay home for a minimum of 10 days symptom free without the use of medicine and requested you be tested. Please contact us via phone for more directions (718)-847-3370.

  • Directions for local COVID testing: Please visit the NYC Corona: Find a Test Site page to find a test site closest to you. NYC offers free testing throughout the boroughs.

Safety Precautions Taken By Our School

In addition to asking everyone to wear masks, wash hands, and maintain social distancing, our school has taken several steps to improve the safety of our staff and students. These steps have been recommended by local health authorities to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 and other illnesses.

  • Changes in classrooms:  There are physical distancing guidelines within each classroom.  Student desks are 3 feet apart.

  • Improvements in ventilation: In an effort to maximize air circulation, we are opening windows in every learning space and following directives about air quality.

  • Increases in cleaning frequency: Our custodial team is committed to cleaning all classrooms once at the end of each day with an electro-static machine. Shared high-touched points (such as doorknobs and handrails) will be clean throughout the school day. In addition, all classroom teachers have been provided with sanitizing wipes/spray cleansers to wipe down surfaces and shared resources on an as-needed basis throughout the school day.

  • Hand sanitation: All bathrooms have been stocked with extra soap for frequent hand washing. In addition, we have provided teachers with hand sanitizer for the classroom and hand sanitizing stations around the school.
